Discover hundred-year-old boat lifts! !
Considered a pure masterpiece of Belgian civil engineering, the Historic Centre Canal and its four hydraulic lifts are one of the most remarkable examples of an industrial landscape from the last century. Initially designed to link the Sambre and Scheldt basins and thus facilitate the transit of goods from the North to the South of the country, the Historic Centre Canal is now exclusively devoted to river tourism.
Guided excursion / Duration: approx. 2h-2h30
Departing from the Strépy-Thieu funicular lift, board one of our promenade boats and let yourself be seduced by the bucolic charm of the Historic Centre Canal, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and its hydraulic lifts, the only ones in the world still in their original state and operating with the force of water alone! You will cross lift no. 4 and then head for lift no. 3 where a visit to the machine room is planned to learn the secrets of the manufacture and operation of these hundred-year-old lifts !
ATTENTION: Wearing a mask is required in the tourist train
There is no access for PRMs.
